Pourchet is a family business that was founded in Paris in 1903 by Auguste Pourchet, great grandfather of the generation currently at the helm. In 1910 the house of Pourchet began to produce the leather goods it is now famous for. The leather bags were handmade in a workshop on the Rue Faubourg du Temple, in central Paris. The current artistic director of the house is Karine Dupont.

Pourchet has a strong connection with many elements of French culture, for example in the world of sport the company sponsors sailing competitions on the French Riviera. Pourchet also has many links with the art world. In 2009 the company was one of the first French fashion houses to collaborate with an artist. David Cintract, an iconic French pop artist, aided the design of Pourchet’s celebrated winter collection that year. In 1996 the sculptor Arman, created ‘la saccamania,’ a sculpture made up of over 100 Pourchet bags, which went on display in the Galleries Lafayette. Today the company works with Hilton McConnico, an artist whose work is on permanent display in museums across the world, including the Louvre.

The Pourchet Company retains the ideals of quality and workmanship that were the basis of its production in 1903, but is constantly moving forward in terms of style, technology, and business strategies. The house has evolved from a business with only 30 staff, to an adored label sold in over 800 stores worldwide. The Pourchet name is synonymous with beautiful, modern design, such as the Madison-tricolour and butterfly bags, two of Pourchet’s most famous creations. The innovation of Pourchet designs has not gone unnoticed; the company’s bags have been featured in Glamour, Elle, Cosmopolitan, and Marie-Clare magazines.
